I think he is also an ajin, I mean the mc's mother said not to play with kai anymore when they are kids so that means maybe that Kei is also an ajin?

@Blockhead his mother don't want him to play with Kai cause she want him to concentrate on his study so he can achieve his dream to become a doctor,not cause Kai is an Ajin.Some human hve different advantage/disadvantage in physical condition,so in Kai case he probably hve excellent body durability that's why he can endure the pain.
