Well if you grew up, your whole clan was murdered in front of you and you were the only one left alive out of pity, locked in a room like a prisoner in a dungeon for the rest of your life, someone finally comes to save you and shows you the world of magic, and you start to take a view on life that you will only matter if you are the strongest, and think you will be nothing if you surrender, then yes, he wouldn't surrender
He didn't surrender..... And that's the best part of his character but..... He once lost something(everything) and knows the hardship of being weak and useless..... And then looking down on someone when he have the strength.... Nah.... Not really a good guy. But I'm 100% sure if he recover, he'll be a different person
