My guess is that yang yan is from hella ancient times but everytime she is about to die her body regresses back into a little child loosing memories from the past but retaining knowledge of spirit arrays and artifact refining through some type of seal or array.

@suck your mother nope, yang yan is currently the soul clone of the so called starry sky great emperor. While the star emperor is the owner of that star field also the companion yang yan, unfortunately he is already dead.
