I think the box was given to Elli/Elly and then he stole it , i think tho not sure

i think eli stole the box bcs her father told he so (to fix their family back or smth)

From what I undersstand, the empress gave Eli the box to take home with her because she's supposed to be the final sacrifice to fully awaken the disease. The duke has decided Eli betrayed him, so he then stole the box from her to use for his own ends.
