I skimmed over chapter 40 (because I had also forgotten), but that chapter does not directly transition into this one. It ended with him finding a journal and him vowing to use the info to help steer away from the world ending.
If you want to recollect more yourself, perhaps just randomly pick a few past random chapters and look at some pages.
