I think the exact same way, if i'm going to be cheated on, i'd rather they just break up with me first instead of causing extra drama/damage.
I'd never cheat, but this thought process also has me think "if I ever somehow get in that situation, I should still break up with who i'm with first."

because that's the safest, most fair possible ending in that scenario.
