A clean break is the only option. Neither is really able to be vulnerable and honest. There's a power dynamic that favours the ML who's essentially built a guided cage to maintain control of the MC. And the MC is facing the reality of the situation and realizing that he can no longer live with the illusion of a relationship and continue accepting scraps while denying his own wants and needs. Certainly can't raise a child like this. Of course good luck cause ML is clearly going rampage after this.
