Happened to me too, my "friend" told him and publicly announced it in our classroom that i liked that one guy. I felt humiliated and embarrassed. I did liked the guy at one point but it was never loved him. I just admired him for the good thing he does.
And so when that "friend" of mine told it to everyone they just laughed at me and ask, "What did you even liked him for? Because of his looks? Because his rich?" I just laughed and denied it.
From then on, I felt that the guy started distancing himself from me. So i did the same.
