@Fiz Exactly, even if Korean authors fetishize toxic behavior, they can't just make him a straight up a-hole for the sake of being, so the dead wife is the perfect excuse. Do they stop being terrible fathers because of their poor dead wife? No, but blind girls reading will get easily moved and forget it :) much like real life, the reason why so many domestic abuse exist still.
