Ch. 99
I know a lot of people are on Maxis side cause they want her to girlboss, but I need yall to be realistic for a second because the story very much is. Unlike some story's with girlboss FLs, Maxi is very capable of getting hurt and the story isn't afraid *to* hurt her. She's only been learning magic for what, 6 months? A year at most? She's capable but not experienced and has a low constitution, and the story hasn't ever really shied away from showing the consequences of it.

That's not to say she should NEVER be able to go on expeditions like this, I just think that Riftan thinks it happened too soon. I mean she jumped right from helping heal knights in the castle to being a central mage on a dangerous mission. It's honestly MORE logical to be against it, and while Riftan is definitely overprotective and was shi*** for *why* he said what he did last chapter, he's not exactly WRONG about being concerned. If anything I feel like Maxis a bit *under*-concerned due to wanting to prove herself.

It's like if you first started playing football in January and then suddenly decided to play in a game against NFL players.

@BlueBay I mean, yes, but if she dies/gives up/gets hurt/etc, then how exactly does the story work? Because if they don't have a mage, they're screwed. She has to prove herself, or it's pretty much they all die. There's nowhere to go but up. Lol
@YikesOnBikes69 I'm not talking about it from a meta perspective, I'm talking about it from the perspective of Riftan and why he's acting the way he is instead of "just letting Maxi girlboss"
@BlueBay it's right
but they need a mage that what she is learning to be with this she want to help, gain experience and more confidence in herself.
Her greatest fear is to be useless and abandoned by him and her new family
And she know he will keep her safe

@Cécile willow Like I said, I don't think it's an issue of her NEVER doing things like this, more that this SPECIFIC MISSION was several jumps ahead of what she'd been doing at that point. It's like learning violin for a month and then suddenly auditioning for the philharmonic.

Him keeping her safe is also an issue in and of itself. All of Riftans soldiers can protect themselves. They fight as a team in case something happens, but all of them are perfectly capable of protecting themselves if they somehow ended up on their own. If Riftans energy is devoted between protecting himself and protecting her, that essentially makes her a liability until she develops better defensive and offensive magic.
