This is a genuine question that sprung to me from this. Why do people always hate it when you pity them? Like I know there's the "good" pity and the "bad" pity, but from what I've seen, people hate both even when they're aware of how you feel. If someone pities you with good intentions, doesn't it mean the person understands or at least deeply wants to understand how you feel? I've read books and watched movies and it's always like that. And the moment they say that I instantly feel like I've done something wrong because I was just pitying them. I'm so confused...please see my question in good light 🙏

@Trul kun There can be situations where the person is still processing whatever that happened to them. Normally people don't seek help at that time since they are trying to focus on understanding or forgetting the situation. I'm someone who tries to understand what happened to me an I don't seek out help until I understand the situation that happened. It doesn't mean I hate being pitied on
@Trul kun

For me personally I don't like being pitied. It gets annoying if I haven't processed the situation I'm pitied for myself. For example when someone in my family died years ago I hated the condolences and the pity of people.
In addition nobody wants to seem weak and vulnerable. Pity is the proof that others can see your weakness or helplessness. Pity doesn't change your situation it's more or less useless.
It's a different situation if the person pitying me is a really close friend because in addition to the pity comes support. P

@Trul kun because it makes you feel weak and vulnerable. Its gross
