@PYREX Alright i googled it and according to Oxford  overhyped means make exaggerated claims about (a product, idea, or event); publicize or promote excessively. 
I think you should understand how SL blew up so ofcourse everyone liked it but SL was overrated due to that . 
1. SL focused too much on SungJinwoo other characters were just decorations for showing how op SJW was and didnt show what they were capable of.
2. World building was meh . They showed many hunters from other countries but they were hardly involved in any action .
3. Father's backstory was done kinda rushed . No logic behind how he got chosen as a messenger etc etc .
4. Powerscaling in SL is all over the place .
5. Repetitive plot .
6. Solo leveling literally means Only Sung Jinwoo grows . 😂 Other characters are just joke atp.
7.Racism towards Japanese and Villanising other nations and literally only showing Korea as the supreme and only nation with good people like bruh 😂
8.Also ending was trash .Like bro Dragon G** was supposed to be last Boss and he beat him just like that? Huh ? Shows how op was he , didnt even struggle but where is the action ? We wanted more , we wanted to see desperation , struggling, near death battle .

@Walm you're right about that, but there's more to it.  Solo Leveling was the first of its kind, and I think we can all agree that this webtoon gave us what makes webtoons popular today.  Of course, there were good manhwas before, but this hype was necessary to make webtoon reading a daily habit for many of us, but it also indirectly affected the "webtoon market".  no matter how boring it can be, it remains an experience for me, and fortunately many manhwa return what I felt at the time.

@Norbii No no dont get me wrong when SL came out it was exciting and thrilling . Nobody complained and it was fun to read . Only the Japanese Action mangas were like that at that time but SL came out coloured , better looking  and easy for new readers . But now that we are seeing more and more better manhwas we are seeing its flaws and it just doesn't compare. Its Light Novel never received so much popularity because it was generic and repetitive , the reason of success for the manhwa was because it was first with such art and action.
