Why promise you'll be a part of the girls life by accepting her love for you and then abandon her? Then you have little to no rush in returning until war comes. Like come on. She literally gave herself to anyone willing just to have some sort of connection to you through her descendantswhen you return and you care very little for her.

Well he probably began to care less as he aged and saw himself as more of an observer like most introverts do

@ahg you never know. She held on to false hope of being with him. If she finally got her answer then she was still young enough to find someone worth being with instead of the self absorbed/centered mc.
