I mean, most people sympathize with those that rebuke corruption in religious heirarchy, but it seems she has a real thorn in her eye.
It's shown that they are strong to a point, but they dont seem powerful enough to overthrow a governing body by themselves, which is probably why they are instigating doubt and recruiting members. But using dreggs from the slums... It seems that they are looking for cannon fodder and unrest, more than manpower.
