He's neglected and abused her for years, humiliated her by carrying on with other women in front of her face. Literally staving her to get the divorce he wanted, knowing what a terrible person her father was. Knowing he was the sort of man that didn't waste a day to sell his young daughter.Shutting his eyes to what his subordinate said bluntly she'd be resold immediately to a foul old letcher,  and would have no say in it. He could have offered to get her away from her family by faking her death. Offered to sever her relationship with her family.Appealed to the king to grant her her freedom and prevent her from being remarried. Offered to have her set up in some far distant household out of her father's reach. But he didn't because didn't care enough to offer anything to her. He was more invested in hurting someone who he knew couldn't fight back.
To top it off, the one thing she asked for, to be able to spend time with another man to experience someone loving her before he threw her into the he**, he perverted and twisted. Because he still wanted to keep ownership of his property.
He's actively prevented someone who does actively love her from getting close to her (the kid's not a good match for her, but his feelings are genuine). He's lied to her and deceived her as easily as breathing, whilst feeling no remorse for guilt for it
Then decided I can throw you away as I please, but I'll pick up up again on a whim, no matter your thoughts or feelings.
People have been moved to kill for less.
