Wasn't mp roughly determined by birth? That would mean these assassins are likely related to nobles. You could probably figure out their identities by observing their elements... which explains why they're not bothering to hide their faces. Yeah trying to kill the king is an all or nothing gamble, but for these guys entire families and territories could be wiped out/ overturned in retaliation. Whether the king lives or dies now the country is going to be in a period of instability as loyalties are brought to question.
