Richard kept killing himself over and over again because he felt like he was abandoned by Daphne, but he couldn't get over his love for her. Caelus confined him, essentially shackling him to prevent further suicide attempts. Caelus forced himself on Richard and said some bs like, "You have no idea how much I’ve been holding back." Richard thought to himself, "No matter how much I begged or pleaded, he wouldn’t stop. It was as if he were venting his rage." Afterwards, Caelus erased Richard's memories because he didn't want Richard to be hurt again. Caelus promised that if Richard ever let his guard down, he would do anything to keep him safe, even if it meant kidnapping him to protect him from outside dangers. At the end of each cycle, Caelus felt like he was chasing him over again because he felt bad that he couldn't stop Richard from suffering. 😭🙏
