Have you noticed how little Tei says in general?
For example, in this chapter (or in previous), if we (as readers) didn't know his thoughts, all he would say would be "I see", "No, I..." and "Where is Obaran?", "Who is the other brother?"
Apparently, this is simply a personality trait and/or habit (and that's ok). And it certainly doesn't make their communication with Shuraka any easier.

@ItsNotOverYet  Actually, the author clarified this on her tweet on X. She explained that Tei tends to speak very little because he is a noble. Since nobles have to be very careful with their words,because every sentence can carry hidden meanings . Tei prefers to stay quiet. The author also mentioned that Tei is very straightforward, so he isn’t very good at wrapping his words like other nobles do, which makes him even more reserved. That’s why he often says very little even though we can see his thoughts as readers.
