There are like, 10 surnames in the entire novel which can also be used as first names and people with the Li surname might or might not be connected with the dominant Li family either. It's a testament to China's lack of diversity in their naming structure. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I could see how just swapping those two names might be enough to obfuscate the truth.
