Sorry not sorry, I gotta burst that stoopid bubble of yours right there. Yes, authors do need to cater to readers' every whims, that is absolutely their whole business model. Customer is king and if you don't treat your audience like royalty you go out of business real fast. That much is obvious, the only caveat to this is the fact it applies to the group, not individuals. (some people have a hard time wrapping their head around that subtlety.)
Any deviation from this is a risk they sometimes gotta take to subvert expectations to garner interest. Basic of the basics of storytelling.
