I have dissociative identity disorder as well, so I can give some information to help! (I'm diagnosed)
so this is NOT a personality disorder, which is why it says identity and not personality. I understand it can be very confusing.
So, this disorder is caused from repetitive trauma and is really alike a personality disorder and it's okay to think of it like that, but it's just 1+ identities in one body rather than just one. I know someone with 200+.
identities cannot 'become one' for something. Other identities can have other names, ages, sexuality's, genders, etc. And there's no way to purposefully let an alter front aka to purposefully lswitch.
