The clan leader was fighting against the 'Imitating Blade Killer' and look at how many people he fought off by himself?? In addition to that, he pushed off a tombstone that needed the strength of 3 people. If the clan leader was just stabbed somewhere random then that's plain stupid since he can still move and thus won't be convincing because why would they have time to escape if the clan leader was only stabbed?? Cutting off an arm is fatal to a swordsman or whatever. It renders them unable to wield a sword. In this case, he's lucky it's the left arm. Still, losing an arm is a fatal wound and that was the only thing that could trick the elder.
