I've been watching/reading bl since i was 7 years old,
Be afraid.

wrote this a while ago while I was debating someone.
First of all, let’s make this clear, I can separate fiction from reality. These aren’t real males, they’re not misogynists, racists, rapists or walking embodiments of entitlement like so many in real life. I don’t read yaoi because I like men. I read it because it’s a genre created by women, for women. It exists outside the traditional heteronormative structure where women are constantly objectified, silenced or used as props in someone else’s fantasy. In yaoi—I’m not watching a woman be degraded, I’m not being forced to empathize with a male protagonist who treats her like trash and somehow still gets rewarded. instead I get emotional intensity and connection, just without the power imbalance that u usually find in heterosexual dynamics. And no I don’t care that the characters are technically male. They aren’t ‘men’ in the way that matters. They’re emotional constructs. They’re not real, which means I get to control them, objectify them and project whatever I want onto them...
