Yeah. He just didn't understand why Dietriche was like that to him and when they were on the battlefield and ml saw that he was in trouble and might not survive instead of helping he continued to confront the enemy (tho not a lot of them as Dietriche was fighting a monster while he was fighting a few humans) so he thought he died. Only after his incident did he finally remember their first tl.he really did regret what happened  but due to the shame and thought of being abandoned by her, he didn't tell her. It really was an assumption on her end to not listen to what he was saying and believed that he killed him just to be by her side. So after she went back and found Dietriche still alive but had forget his past it kinda solidified her assumption that he attacked him and did the attempt himself and thought he was dead. That's why when  she found out she was pregnant she was annoyed and hated the child. I just even went to re-read the spoilers and she still didn't  care for their first child after the 4 yrs and then abandoned him with ml even though she knew he really didn't  care for kids and then they have their 2nd kid and realised that she mistreated her 1st kid buts still does nothing to rectify it. And this is 2yrs after she leaves her son with ml. She really was a bad mom to him. It wasn't  until later on that she starts acting like a good mom.
