It was pretty bold of the author to add in this particular scene. I'm sure they knew how controversial it would be but it adds to the story. I am uncomfortable looking at it, but that is definitely the intent. I don't see it as beast******, more like a grotesque display of fear yet to come. I don't know where the story is going, but there has to be a reason this was depicted so graphically. So far, I am heavily invested.
