@CHICKIIES let me tell you something, in a bed of flowers. You planted marigolds, there grew unwanted weeds out of the beautiful flowers. You don't just cut them or take out thier roots of the weeds, you should find the source and end it. Hence why they created weed poison.
In a tree, all roots are connected to the ground. They share the same soil, water and heat. Even of they cut the tree, the roots eventually grow to a new tree, even if we take out the roots and the tree, there will be a specle of bad mana and can travel to a different root of a tree and will grow.
That is why they needed the maiden to cure or take out the bad mana in the tree.
