In a few cases, they are trying to keep potential partners away, because their friend has a tendency to attract scumbags and they are trying to protect their friend. But the guy with the dark hair isn't doing any of that, it is obvious his friend isn't just a friend to him and his so called girlfriend is just a placeholder ... people like him avoid the inevitable and end up hurting everyone else along the way. Don't date other people, if you have feelings for someone else or feel confused about your identity, it's simply not fair to them.
