are u sure u read the novel while understanding? Grayson was like that from the birth. His parents took him to every doctor and psychiatry. But they couldn't help him so Ashley taught him to be helpful, what is wrong to do. And they hired him a drama teacher so he can act the emotions even without feeling. And Ashley didn't lock him. While he was kid because of him koi nearly died. Koi can't smell and he put chemicals to his food so he can figure out if he really can't smell or not. If Ashley wasn't around he was already dead. What do you expect him to do ?? His son is mentally ill he can't feel emotions he did everything he could but his son almost killed his husband. And he never abused him he only acted cold towards him so he'll listen his words and Ashley has the most trauma if you read Ashley's parents novel you would understand him. His father was black flag till the end
