The reason Tay is with ilay is bcz no matter what ilay will never kill Tay and xinlu will bcz he just wants to take him with him in the novel ilay confessed to Tay that if Tay were to ever die he would kill himself and if he couldnt he would assign someone else to kill him another one is that during a conversation ilay says to ay that as long as he is alive he will be with him no matter what
Ilay says that a life without Tay is boring dull and bad he doesn't know what he'll do without him
