@imarri as far as I know is that, she was raised the same as she is here now, so she probably didn't have someone who taught her how to fight back that's why she's just trying to fake everything she do and act to not cause any trouble.

@imarri She was abused and tortured not just in one lifetime but two, she is paranoid and afraid for good reason because she doesn't want a third cycle of abuse, that's why she is stepping on eggshells and terrified of death around every corner. Abuse victims do not magically recover from their trauma and stand up for themselves and to think she would do so after not knowing who to trust in a strange environment even with the novel's help is unrealistic. :/ You clearly don't understand just how badly abuse affects people psychologically or you wouldn't question her behaviour.
