I think Dan is subconsciously suic!dal because of loneliness. Especially now that her days are numbered. All hes ever known is her and his drive to care for her, now that she will be leaving this world he has no direction in life and no one to turn to. Grandma definitely sense this and that's why shes telling JK to take him back to Soul. I think this is going to be a huge wakeup call to JK and he will help Dan to cope and heal. Especially after everything Dan has done to help him.
