Longer answer: this 'edith' is not the first 'edith' the author has kidnapped and injected into his world. The author enjoys watching people struggle to fight their poor situation while pulling strings to ultimately kill them. Then grab a new victim and start it all over again... they're not exactly someone with a great and well adjusted mindset...
