I think MC was focusing too much on the math and not enough on figuring out how to do it. People used things like slings and spear throwers for millennia without knowing mathematically how they worked -they just knew what felt right for them and what worked/didn't work.

@Galactic Navy Officer You're a bit wrong about slings and spears. To be precise, we specificaly evolved as walking catapults, from our toes to our fingers through all what's between. It's particularly true when you look at baseball pitchers : no other animals (even gorillas, chimps, etc) have such control over the momentum of projectiles. Even babies show innate instinct to throw things before even knowing how to walk or speak properly.

tl;fr: No needs to calculate at conscious level, our body and instinct do it before we're even aware of letting go of the projectile.
