i agree with your point of view. I also dislike the lack of determination they give to a lot of female leads in novels like this, not truly helping them develop a strong personality until well over half the story is already done.
It is obvious that she will eventually develop some sort of back bone but the way they always make her dwell in her own sadness not being able to realize her current circumstances can be a little bit frustrating for the reader. At least for me. Makes her one of the many female leads that follows a similar formula and doesn't really add a lot of dimension to her overall character.
