Ok the dad is a piece of sh** and I wish him the worst. Also when the mom said "you're not going to be like him, right?" I don't believe she was referring to him being gay but instead to the fact that he left her so she doesn't want her child to leave her also. That's what I think but I understand how a child would misunderstand and cause trauma.
