Why can't it be a contract with some elemental spirit, or even a vengeful angel or something? It's like these stories are saying that you have to indulge in some kind of evil force if you want justice for yourself. That's a bad message to send.
Also, what's with the promise at the end? No matter how much blood, no matter how many screams, she'll survive it? That is extremely vague. What if the screams and blood comes from people that she cares about? She'll no doubt form some good relationships during her second chance.
