fortunately, to her credit, despite falling for him, she doesn't pursue him out of respect and cheering on Janica, she even goes as far as asking others to find another guy to date to get over Ed (and when people tell her how bad the idea is, she even considers asking her other best friend to date her and is shot down)
this girl's sole purpose of falling for Ed is to force Janica (also named Yenika in some novel translations) to be more competitive and assertive in winning Ed's affections (which kind of works due when some future incidents where Ed is forced to rely on Janica).
