Instances like the scene where he shouts for him to get off, chapt 44 where he takes avantage of the fact that JK is drunk, and him getting jobs to pay for JK bday gift, allow Dan to have enough atonomy in situations where JK could be at fault, like he was been SA'd uptil now like in chpt 36 but its only now that he has the choice to say no making all those scene prior where he was SA seem contridictory/meaningless as now it shows that he couldve always said no absolving JK ( and all the other time when the s** was 'consensual' was after the writer chose to make JK a saviour to Dan and make Dan fall in love with him depsite going through all this) . He got jobs to pay for JK bdy gift but at the start it made it seem like he only had the choice to sell his body (plus i dont think you understand how prostitution works like no one grows up thinking im gonna be a s** worker it almost always due to finicial deprevation) this makes it look like Dan willingly choice to sell if body to JK. The writer uses plot decoys like finicial dependency to make it seem like dan in trapped in the situation only to make him have antomy in situation that are conveniant.
