It broke my heart when he asked her if she wasn't going to strangle him that night. Jihwan was used to that ill behavior and treatment of his mother. Waking up next to that would mess up anyone. From what we are seeing is there was nothing healthy or loving in his childhood. It's unfortunate to say but he's a byproduct of his environment.
