I'm pretty sure this is like a time paradox loop kinda thing. So basically what we just saw is what Hinata and Chloe are currently experiencing after they disappeared. What they are currently doing is influencing the "past", which in turn affects the "future", which is Rimuru's current "present". Sounds kinda complicated but it's pretty simple.Β
In the beginning we already know that Veldora was defeated by a hero who sealed him. That hero is Hinata who is controlling Chloe's body. Hinata, or rather the hero "Chronoa" gave the mask that she received from the Rimuru from her past but her current timeline's future, and passed it onto Shizu, who passes it back to Rimuru in a loop. As we saw, Chloe's body is kept in a casket of some sort. The body has no soul inhabiting it as Hinata and Chloe are both otherworlders so even if they came from a separate timeline, the past versions of them will still get summoned and having two identical souls in the same world and time period is probably not good. That means Hinata and Chloe's souls disappear or something idk, and the cycle repeats itself from where the otherworlders are summoned and Rimuru meets the sealed Veldora and Shizu, moving to the current moment where Rimuru is fighting Granveld (i forgot his name, the hero dude who betrays Luminous).
This is not to say that this happens in every loop. Chloe is going back in time precisely because things don't work out. This is just one of the instances of her changing the past so she can guide Rimuru to the ideal future she wants. That's why she's repeatedly gone to the past for the last 2000 years or so.

@AnimeJJ The short answer is that it's a time loop, and Hinata and Chloe just jumped two thousand years into the past, accidentally as Chloe explains that they're going to help lay the foundation of Lady Luminous' empire, while giving her tiny scraps of future intel in order to help them win things against that πΊπππππ πΎ Granville when they get back to their proper time.
