Comment on MangaSong of the Wasteland

After reading a lot of comments i think there are two totally different sides:
1. People being upset because of the portrayal of slaves and believing it should not be allowed

2. People are arguing that it’s a good representation of slavery NOT in a romanticising way but as a representation and spreading awareness

i’ve already left a lot of comments on this issue but im genuinely curious and wanna know from both sides what theyre actually thinking
and ik there’s always an in between but idk where that lines starts nor stops

@Anonofurbusiness I think people are allowed to make a story about anything. I think there’s a right way to include slavery in stories and a wrong way. I think it was too early to tell definitively how this story was going to handle it because it was only one chapter, but the groundwork left a sour taste in my mouth. The implication that the mc was a slaveowner and only fought for the union because his father urged him to, and was only motivated by the political ramifications of the civil war rather than the human rights of it. The way the author very clearly wanted the slave x slaver dynamic to be integral to the story - one of the very first things the love interest says is call himself “your humble slave…” And I feel we have to acknowledge that slave x slaver relationships did happen in antebellum America, but that they were almost always nonconsensual. Could this story have been good? Maybe! Am I sad it was discontinued after only one chapter? A little bit. I think, despite my reservations, judging it by just the first chapter was maybe hasty. But it genuinely did leave a bad taste in my mouth. And I wonder if JAXX maybe dodged a bullet nipping this one in the bud.
