@Capitulate Actually, mc is considering that there are already many variables, and the game difficulty seems harder than when he played, so if he is as consistent as he was when he won, the outcome will be worse, so he needs to create new variable to produce a better outcome to get through the new hurdles. This is a very simple concept to understand.
I have seen theof your ways, and I shall guide you to the right path.
@Insight The key variable in which he already has, despite the difficulty, is his own existence; an extra character. He has the free choice of class. He can choose the highest power ranked class based on gameplay knowledge and have greater success in knowing his own power level and usefulness opposed to simply selecting the new and shiny class that has, honestly, a higher chance of getting him killed.
Spoiler!
Even going forward in chapters, it's not clear that it was the correct choice. If he had chosen a mage/sorc he most likely would have had a much easier time. The main boon is from his character passive, not from his class abilities. The synth ability can mostly make up for the loss of a combat character, and the totems are a non-zero boon. Though simply having an extra mage, where mana always seems to be an issue, would have a higher success rate. His swords have a -50% dmg penalty because of class, if he was a mage his combat potential would double. In heindsight it was actually the wrong choice, imho.
