I wish she had apologized as soon as she met him.
We know that its not her that abused the kid but the kid doesn't know that. If my abuser suddenly starts acting all loving and caring, I would be scared for my life even more.

@badchoices this. It may not seem fair, but she's in the role she is now and has to take responsibility for it - which I know women in particular find anathema. Taking responsibility for anything.

I think children aren't easy to reassure with an apology even if it's genuine. It's better to earn his trust slowly with time. Also
@Tropeh8r we don't need to go there. I haven't read the rest yet but she is a former victim too, I think she is the best person to overcome this awkward distance between them.
