I started watching it's anime some days ago, I was alr aware of the plot but not in details and that L will die, I always prefered L over light even before watching L die In anime, I couldn't stop crying. After that I couldn't even watch 1 EP without him. Cuz I realized without L with story is nothing. L was an orphan that's when Watari took him in, so he must've been quite lonely. L mentioned in Anime that If light were turned out to be Kira it'd be a prob cuz Light was his first friend. What's tragic is L actually considered him one, in the EP 25 "Silence" L apologizes to Light multiple times and even Massages him feet, then says "it's sad is it, that we'll be parting ways soon" L knew he's at a disadvantage since it's smth beyond human power he was dealing with still he kept on his struggle despite that L started seeing light as his first friend. If y'all notice carefully in this chap before dying L thinks "so I wasn't wrong but I" wonder what he really wanted to say after that "but I" it shatters my heart. Many people hate him but he doesn't deserve to be hated :') he's my fav and will always be
