so yeah, the so called king doesnt really betray him for bad, but for good... I mean, no one knows what might actually happen to every person so, I can understand why did he do it... though it is kind of hurting for it to be like that...but still he might be sincere especially when he said "don't forgive me"...maybe he is just doing it for his people, inclusing himself, because he think that out of nowhere, our mc might just happen to be a custard over time, so he end him early...

@Arufi I don't think your reason is suitable enough for anyone to kill their best friend. Maybe the king was threatened or blackmailed into killing the mage because he seemed really reluctant to kill him. Or perhaps the king is just a psycho with too much phobia?
