Imagining the author thinking this was like... a badass moment is so cringe. Like, you can say Robert was a bad person because he went along with the prince's ideas and all that, but that's his job, not some delusional notion of being chivalrous. He doesn't have a divine artifact cheat skill so if he fails to perform his duty he'll actually have to face the consequences, unlike Elizabeth. Also Elizabeth can't really get mad at anyone for moral reasons. She kills bandits despite knowing they're doing it out of poverty caused by their lord, she uses religious charity to whitewash her image, she buys and owns slaves despite the fact that she doesn't need them. She didn't do this to Robert because he was a bad person and "deserved" it, she did it because he was mean to her. I don't mind a villain MC but she's so lame and her revenge is so cheap. Dropped.

From his own word, Hagure Metabo was worried the polarizing developpments at the end of the first volume (3rd in case of the manga) would be accepted by the readers. And the author is right : it's one of the most polarizing scene I've seen in a series so far.
In case of Robert, he knew from the beginning everything the Prince was doing was wrong, but he still followed suit... even when his father admonished him for what he was doing. If we let what he did to Elizabeth, don't forget he let his men attack villages and ra** women. Villagers who did nothing wrong and Haldoria would have faced no consequences for what they did (if not for Elizabeth).
