I don't remember which story it was, although it was a western story, not a manga, but there was a guy who owned a labyrinth that the other side was mapping. The team managed to map about a third of the labyrinth, including the way to the exit.
After the team left, the owner swapped around most of the labyrinth. But, he left about a third of the mapped passage alone, starting at the entrance to the maze. Except, he installed some nifty hidden sliding doors and walls that would quietly slip into place after the invaders were far enough away not to detect the change.
Ab-so-lute-ly demolished the invading force that came.
The embarrassing part is it took them twice more to catch on that sending in mapping teams, then invading, was useless. Mapping teams could run around as they liked and return safely; the invading forces never did. They weren't smart enough to disguise an invading team as mappers.
It was all grey and gray morality and it was hard to tell who was "right", but there's not being "right" and there's being a dumbass.
