Okay so firstly this story has many loopholes, more like the storytelling is kinda weird, the sequence of events is not explained well so I'll just try to connect the dots....I think 10 years ago they got into that city J incident where K and his ex were the only survivors, but I think it was initially because of Jerome's powers, he lost control and I guess it is a reason why headquarters took him while K moved on and as they both were from special forces no one else knew about all these things and may be what happened during the incident made jerome kinda hate K and 2 years ago they lost jerome since he went to the red head guy and other evil people and may that's why K said "I wasn't too late this time" suggesting that he couldn't prevent ex getting taken away
Idk this is just how much I understood but if you guys have anything to add or correct me, please do so bcoz ts is too confusing for me
