I don't think the artist or author checked how big three meters is. Those desks are a bit over half a meter from each other at most.

For us US folks, a meter is 3.2 feet, or just over a yard. Since average humans fall into 5-6 feet or 1.7-1.8 meters, you can guessimate how much 3 meters is.
