In the scene where MC's soul is leaving his body, the つ right there is more like "ugh". The つ or ツ in japanese is "Tsu". But in this case the "tsu" used there was the smaller version (っ), where it is used as a smaller pause like when someone is surprised (like -> あっ or アッ).
